Description
GILROY, CA — The City of Gilroy will host a virtual community meeting next Wednesday to discuss state-mandated changes to the City building codes.
Every three years, cities and counties across California are required to adopt local building codes in line with the new Building Standards Code or Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations. Cities can also adopt local building energy codes that go beyond state minimum requirement, known as "reach codes."
In a statement online, the City said that reach codes incentivizing energy efficiency and electrification in buildings can lead to cleaner air, improved public health, more affordable housing, and a lower climate impact.
The City's April 27 meeting, held in partnership with Silicon Valley Clean Energy, will include a presentation about mandated codes and possible reach codes. It will also allow for a Q&A following the presentation, and use community feedback to develop possible reach codes for the City Council to consider. The City Council anticipates preliminary discussions of reach codes in summer 2022.
The meeting will start Wednesday, April 27 at 6 p.m. Register here. Spanish language interpretation will be provided.
