EDINA, MN — A St. Paul man is facing felony charges after police said he had several drugs in his system when he caused a fatal wrong-way crash on Highway 169 in January 2021. Selmon Rogers, 58, was charged last week with one count of criminal vehicular homicide and one count of criminal vehicular operation in connection with the crash that killed Abdi Isack, 22, of North Mankato. The Minnesota State Patrol said it was called around 2:45 p.m. on Jan. 28, 2021, to a crash in the southbound lanes of Highway 169 near the Bren Road overpass. Troopers found two cars with "significant front-end damage." He was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center, where police took a sample of his blood that showed traces of cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, norfentanyl and THC, the complaint alleges. Isack, who was driving the other car, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he later died, police said. One of the drivers told police he saw an SUV driving at him on the wrong side of the road and swerved to avoid a crash, which meant the car behind him "received the brunt" of the impact, according to the charges. The driver said he was hit by another car as he swerved to avoid a head-on crash with Rogers' SUV, police said. A video of the crash showed Rogers' SUV enter the median of the highway and cross through an opening between barriers into the opposite lanes of traffic before hitting Isack's car head-on, the complaint states. Rogers was serving a 25-year probation sentence for a felony drug-dealing conviction in October 2019 in Clay County at the time of the crash, the Star Tribune reported.
