Calls For Town of Hempstead To Start Downtown Revitalization Project

BALDWIN, NY — After the Town of Hempstead dropped its plans for a one-year development moratorium in Baldwin, Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) announced it is time for the town to start making revitalization a top priority. "Why are we still waiting for the town to move forward with their part of the plan?" Mulé asks at a Thursday news conference. "I can tell you what it's not about. It's not about the environment." Mulé said the Town Board approved the project, which included the design review board. "This is truly a grassroots, up from the community, vision, many years in the making," she said. Assemblywoman Judy Griffin (D- Rockville Centre) said: "I'm glad they decided to end the moratorium, but what they did to me is just another delay tactic." Mulé and local leaders said the Baldwin downtown revitalization project has been on hold for decades. Mulé demanded the Town of Hempstead, "Do your jobs and get these projects going now."
