I used to promote concerts during the last great days of the LA rock scene- 1988-2005- and am kinda freaked out about the new business model for what passes as concert promoters in 2022. These "production groups" with people in multiple cities that book bands on shows under the same corporate banner that have nothing in common stylistically and get angry when you mention the other artists on the bill- and who expect you to sell pre-sale tickets via ticketfly or eventbrite and crank up the door price for your friends who want to come down and see you and get a ticket the night of the show- are killing me! I just do not understand what happened to encouraging artists to be supportive of one another and not charging touring band prices to see local acts who ONLY get paid if they meet some unrealistic draw number! I am working with a couple of VERY good bands in a management capacity right now and am looking for promoters who understand that it is a lot better for the club- and the scene- that bands can draw 100 people who pay a reasonable cover charge instead of trying to get bands to milk their fans/friends/family for a $20+ ticket to see a show at a local club. If anyone else out there has feelings about this new model for promoters- or knows of any clubs or promoters who care about giving great bands a place to play with other bands that fit their style-- not booking shows with pop acts rock acts rappers and edm artists on the same show--- hit me up I am thinking of doing some promoting again myself and would love to hear about your band but would also like to hear what YOU think of the state of the local live music scene in town now If you dont have a draw and all you want to do is scream about how unfair pay to play is ( pay to play was created so bands without a draw could actually get a gig) keep on strolling and don't do no trolling- but if you are part of a legit band that would like to see things get a little easier to get good shows with other artists your friends might enjoy and not head for the door the second they start playing- reach out and say hello You dont have to send a link to your music- but isn't it kinda the point of being in a band- to turn new people on to your music? And I don't care what genre you are working in- artists of any kind please feel free to reply Thanks and I look forward to hearing your music
