MARLBOROUGH, MA — The overall number of high-risk communities for coronavirus in Massachusetts has shrunk, but Marlborough has been added to the list. Data released Wednesday evening by the state Department of Public Health indicate that Marlborough is now one of 15 cities and towns across the state where new cases have been rising quickly. In general, the state considers a community "high-risk" when the number of new daily cases over the last two weeks rises above eight. On Wednesday, Marlborough saw 8.4 new cases per day on average over the last two weeks. There were 40 active cases in the city as of Wednesday. Coronavirus deaths in Marlborough remained unchanged on Wednesday at 69. Up until Monday, Marlborough was only in the moderate risk category. On Sept. 16, the average daily cases hit 5.6. That number rose to 7.2 by Sept. 18. Marlborough is not alone in the area in this category. Worcester, Framingham and Holliston are also on the high-risk list. Marlborough is also one of the few communities with free Stop the Spread coronavirus testing.
