The Assistant Brewer will assist with packaging, testing, cleaning, and managing inventory. They'll work with the head brewer to ensure consistent quality across all of our beverages. In addition, the brewer is responsible for pre- and post-cleaning and sanitation of all transfer lines and vessels. The brewer also is responsible for cellar tasks including, but not limited to, filtration, brew transfers, tank CIPs, various recipe additions, maintenance of parts and hoses, and the filing and managing of water. The brewer will also be required to assist with packaging shifts, which will include running the canning line, filling kegs and preparing packaged coffee for shipment. The brewer works shifts of varying lengths. Brew-days may consist of longer shifts up to 10 hours, while packaging and cellaring shifts may be shorter shifts. The brewer is expected to be punctual, self-motivated, and contribute within a teamwork environment. Once eligible for growth, this position may evolve into a full-time brewer status, rewarding proficiency. Other Accountabilities Make observations of efficiencies and inefficiencies. Make recommendations for equipment and processes with formal reports or an email. Contribute to improvements and processes required to gain efficiency and quality assurance in the brewing department and production operations. Complete special projects assigned by supervisors. Participate in general cleaning of the break room and offices. Remain calm, flexible, and able to work through setbacks and emergencies. Ability to know when to ask for help from the Operations and Production Team. Supervises if help is needed to prevent mistakes and ultimately get the job done. Able to work through challenges by setting a professional and upbeat example. Writing and math skills necessary to accurately complete dilution calculations, volume, flow, density, weight, length, pressure and other unit conversions, and calculate beverage volumes/losses. Job Qualifications Education: High School Diploma Education: Bachelor’s degree in food science, biotechnology, process engineering, organic chemistry, or other related field a plus General knowledge of practices, methods, tools, and equipment used in production and pub-style brewing. General knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions associated with work. Ability to interpret technical bulletins and schematics on equipment related to work. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Comfortable lifting up to 70 lbs Physical Demands Consistently lift and carry 10 pounds and occasionally lift and carry 70 pounds to chest height. Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, lifting, kneeling and reaching. Must be able to stand for the entire shift, up to ten hours. Consistently able to use repetitive hand and wrist motion. Work with hot, cold and hazardous equipment and materials. Climb stairs several times a day. Frequent washing of hands. This position starts at $16 hr and an average of 30 hours with potential full time.
