“There's really no such thing as the 'voiceless'. There are only the deliberately silenced, or the preferably unheard.”
~Arundhati Roy
I'm Benjamin––a local writer focused on memoir ghostwriting. I'm reaching out to find other writers who might like to work together on a community-oriented project that helps collect and shed light on the stories of people who are among the "deliberately silenced" or otherwise "preferably unheard" in the Twin Cities. The contributions could be published in book form, become the scripts for a podcast(s), or take other forms.
I'm interested in funding the project through grants (grant-writing experience is a plus but not necessary). The concept, for instance, might be to create a book including the memoirs of 4 community-member storytellers. Grants, and possibly other contributions, would pay for our work in collecting the details, writing the stories, and paying for the storytellers' time. Future content royalties, in one scenario, would be allocated 75% to the storytellers, 15% to developing future projects, and 10% to the writers (none of this is set in stone/I'm open to changes).
Perhaps another project could be empowering storytellers to be the writers, and our roles would shift into more of something along the lines of a co-writer/consultant.
If you or someone you know is interested, just reply to this listing or share it! Also, please don't be shy if you'd simply like to contribute an idea! :)
