MARLBOROUGH, MA — Two students from Marlborough are among the dozens across the state who have tested positive for coronavirus recently, according to a new weekly report released for the first time Friday by the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. According to DESE, 63 students and 34 school workers across the state tested positive between Sept. 24 and Sept. 30. The DESE report will be updated each Thursday for the rest of the school year. Marlborough began the school year on Sept. 21 under a hybrid learning model, where students attend a mix of in-person and online classes. Students are required to wear masks and socially distance. However, Marlborough High School went fully remote shortly after school began due to a student testing positive. The district is set to decide if classes can resume by the beginning of next week. At the same time, Marlborough was recently added to the list of communities at high-risk of coronavirus. Marlborough has been adding new cases for a variety of reasons, health officials have said, including social gatherings, and the reopening of schools and workplaces.
