MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough will close City Hall to the public starting Monday due to a worsening rise in local coronavirus cases, officials said Wednesday. City Hall reopened to the public in mid-August after shutting down during the first pandemic wave in the spring. But local cases have only continued to rise since the end of summer. Marlborough added 49 new cases between Monday and Wednesday this week, and the rate of new cases per 100,000 people rose over 80 per day, according to health metrics released Wednesday. "We are hopeful that we are able to reopen within the first quarter of the 2021 and will continue to monitor the COVID statistics and confer with our Board of Health," Mayor Arthur Vigeant said in a statement. City Hall workers will still be on the job, however. Marlborough residents can still call individual departments, and some will be available by appointment. Any payments can be made online or at the drop box outside City Hall.
