Celtics Honor Marlborough, Worcester Residents For Heroic Actions

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Two local residents are among a group of recipients being honored by the Boston Celtics for their humanitarian efforts. Marlborough nurse Ann Marie-Martel and Worcester resident Tyrell Stevenson are being honored as Celtics "Heroes Among Us" for jumping into action to save lives. In July, Martel was driving along Concord Road in Marlborough when she noticed a car pulled over along with all its doors open. She stopped to ask if anyone needed help, and she discovered the 53-year-old driver was having a heart attack. Martel began giving the man CPR, and luckily had disposable mouth guards with her after a recent first aid class. The man's wife called her later that night to thank Martel, saying her intervention likely save the man's life, according to WCVB. Also in July, Stevenson was one of several people who intervened to save a drowning 4-year-old boy at North Brookfield's Lake Lashaway. Stevenson began performing CPR on the boy when he was pulled up onto a dock. "Heroes Among Us" honorees get an award from the team, and are highlighting during regular season games.
