RIDGEFIELD, CT — First Selectman Rudy Marconi is warning residents that the town will be designated a "red zone" by the state if the current coronavirus infection trends continue. "As the holidays approach, if we all don't act promptly to mitigate our current trend, we could see an explosion with a large increase of infections and potential spreaders," Marconi said in a news release. Ridgefield is averaging four new cases of COVID-19 per day, occurring across all age groups, Marconi said, and has "dipped into the red zone three times in the last ten days." The town has had 26 new confirmed cases of the virus in the past week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The state has three warning levels that are based on the number of daily infections. The color-coded levels are yellow, orange and red. "Red" towns risk additional restrictions on the size of gatherings and the shuttering of performing arts venues. Last week nearby Bethel and Brookfield recently joined charter member Danbury in the red zone, having 15 or more cases per 100,000 population. The map is updated weekly by the Department of Public Health. Marconi asked residents to: Consider everyone a potential spreader and behave accordingly.Cap all indoor and outdoor gatherings in residences at 10.Stay home if they feel ill, wear a face mask when leaving their home, distance at least six feet apart, wash their hands often and sanitize their surroundings regularly.Be respectful of the rules because their efforts affect the entire community.Keep their eye on the "big picture" by making sacrifices now so the town can continue to keep its schools and businesses open. The First Selectman said the town's newly-formed COVID Task Force is closely monitoring the situation.
