Press release from The Ridgefield Playhouse: Sept. 21, 2020 Join us this Wednesday, September 23 at 7pm as the Diversity Film Series at The Ridgefield Playhouse continues with a FREE screening of Filmmaker Sophie Huber's Blue Note Records Beyond The Notes. The film takes you on a revelatory, thrilling and emotional journey behind the scenes of Blue Note Records, the pioneering label that gave voice to some of the finest jazz artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. The film is presented by the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra. The bonus content following the screening will include an interview with 6-time Grammy Award-winning Jazz musician Christian McBride, New York Jazz Award winner Thelonious Sphere "T. S." Monk and Blue Note Record president Don Was, led by entertainment reporter Cheryl Washington. The bonus content will be shown after the film in the theater as well as on The Ridgefield Playhouse YouTube channel for home viewing, thanks to our streaming content sponsor People's United Bank. Upcoming screenings and interviews also include, Emmy Award winner and television legend Dick Cavett following I Am Not Your Negro on September 30 presented by the Ridgefield Library, cognitive psychotherapist, speaker & writer Niro Feliciano following Akeelah and the Bee on October 15 presented by Compassionate Ridgefield and Karen Boykin-Towns, Vice Chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Board of Directors following Just Mercy on October 21 presented by Keeler Tavern among others. The interviews will be led by entertainment reporter Cheryl Washington. The Ridgefield Playhouse successfully launched Ridgefield's Diversity Film Series on September 9 with a screening of Malcolm X followed by bonus content, which consisted of an interview with actors Giancarlo Esposito and Sharon Washington, who portray Thomas Hayer and Augusta in the film. For anyone who was unable to attend and would like to watch the movie from home, the bonus content can be accessed through The Ridgefield Playhouse YouTube channel. Thanks to the generosity of Ridgefield residents Anita and Nick Donofrio, Ann and Steve Carlson, Allison and Jon Stockel, Julie and David Peck, Daniela Sikora and Keitha Kinne, The Ridgefield Playhouse, along with nine other arts organizations, are using the arts to broaden awareness and stimulate conversations with the creation of The Ridgefield Diversity Film Series. Led by The Ridgefield Playhouse, nine arts organizations - ACT of CT, Ridgefield Allies, Compassionate Ridgefield, Ridgefield Library, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, The Ridgefield Chorale, Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra, Ridgefield Independent Film Festival, and Keeler Tavern Museum have joined together to present this Diversity Film Series with the hope that these films will serve as a starting point for people to begin a conversation with one another, and encourage audience members to work toward mutual understanding.
