RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Farmingville Elementary School is being closed as confirmed coronavirus cases among its community continue to mount. Superintendent Susie Da Silva notified families in an email. "There have been ten cases of COVID-19 in the Farmingville Elementary School building in a short period of time," Da Silva said. "We have discussed the situation with Town of Ridgefield Health Director Ed Briggs and RPS Medical Advisor Dr. James Ahern. Several of these cases are potentially due to exposures at school." There were 20 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the Farmingville Elementary School community as of Monday evening. The schools made "priority COVID-19 testing for all FES faculty and students" available on Monday, according to an email from Aaron Crook, the schools' COVID-19 heath and safety liaison. "We are closing the FES building to staff and recommending that anybody who was in the FES building since Monday, December 7 closely monitor their symptoms and be tested for COVID-19," Da Silva said. Before the scheduled return to school on Jan. 4, there will be a review of mitigation practices, and communication will be sent to families and staff with updated guidance, according to a post from Da Silva on the school system's website.
