Shakur Day is a fundraising event for one of the most important new organizations for Sacramento, California. The Shakur Center was started by The Neighbor Program a non-profit organization that provides free groceries to the unhoused, community political learning events, and operates their own community newspaper. The Shakur Center was previously a church, but it's now being converted into a school: The Malcolm X Liberation School for its community K-8th grade. The center is also providing a monthly Dr. Mutulu Shakur Health and Wellness Clinic, Afeni Shakur legal clinic, Assata Shakur neighborhood Freedom Farm, youth workshops, political education, a book club and free groceries for families and the unhoused. The Shakur Center has also been blessed by Dr. Cornel West whose conversation with the Directors of the Shakur center said "[The Shakur Center] can make Sacramento a beacon of light and of hope in this moment for our people" (interviewed March 16th via Zoom and posted on Neighbor Program Facebook Page). We are also supporting the Shakur Center because we truly believe it can positively impact its community and bring about great changes through its interdisciplinary and socio-historical political approach. That said Neighbor Program, Our Friends, ANK ENT, and Foreign Native have combined our resources to bring you Shakur Day to introduce to you the new space, the vision and mission and some of the artists that are in support of this new endeavor for our city. THIS EVENT IS FREE BUT WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE A DONATION OF $10 DOLLARS, BUT NO ONE WILL BE TURNED AWAY AT THE DOOR. The proceeds will go towards the center. We will also have professional chefs provide free hors d'oeuvres to our artists and guests and a professional videography team to document the event. We strongly encourage your participation and attendance to make this a spectacular event. Our artists will include: Beatnik Scum known for his song FYE, T6BC and KTA 2.0. You can hear him on Rose Bluntz Jakhari Smith known for being a blessing to our city and turning his pain and loss into hope and love. Zahirah and Diamond make R&B slaps. PULL UP! EGdaBEAST known for his fusion of his east coast NAS sound and West Coast vibes. He can light a fire on the mic and his new music is flame. YUMZ AWKWORD known for consistently delivering music check out Nor Cal x NC and ASON and being a true word smith. ANK will be hosting and running the sound. We hope to see you here!!!
