Join fellow LGBTQIA+ people for an afternoon adventure in the woods!
Join us for the first ever collaboration between Out In Nature, a Chicagoland meet up group for LGBTQIA+ people who enjoy nature, the outdoors and building community, and Queers in the Woods, a national network of queer and LGBTQIA+ nature lovers. Out in Nature co-founders Forrest Cortes and Costen King, and Queers in the Woods founder Theia Calidris ("The Fairy Bog Mother") are excited to welcome you to for an afternoon in nature and in community.
We will kick off with a BYO picnic lunch, then explore lively woodlands and one of the only peat bog habitats in Illinois at Cranberry Slough Nature Preserve. This state designated Nature Preserve is tucked away in the Palos region, a glacially formed area with rolling hills, deep ravines and over 35 miles of trails.
The trail is unpaved and uneven at points, with rolling hills. We will move in a 2.5 mi loop starting and ending at the parking lot on the south side of 95th St between Willow Springs Road and 96th Ave. To find the lot using Google maps, enter "Country Lane Woods". There will be signs for "Country Lane Woods" (the parking lot) when you arrive. Need a ride or willing to offer one to another attendee? Join our WhatsApp group to coordinate a carpool!
Pack a lunch, a water bottle, and sunblock. We advise wearing comfortable, closed-toed shoes and weather appropriate layers (short sleeves under long sleeves).
