MARBLEHEAD, MA — The Marblehead JCC closed Monday after a camper tested positive for the coronavirus.
The closure affects the JCC's pool and summer camps. According to Wicked Local Marblehead, which first reported this story, the JCC originally planned to reopen Tuesday following a deep cleaning of its facilities, but will now remain closed Tuesday as well.
In an email to JCC families, Executive Director Marty Schneer said people who had contact with the camper can expect to be contacted by their local health board. "If you are not contacted, then you do not meet criteria to having been exposed," Schneer said.
Last week, an employee at the Coffin School in Marblehead and another person who works at Green's Ace Hardware both tested positive for the coronavirus, forcing people at the two workplaces to enter precautionary isolation periods.
Last week, the Marblehead school committee approved a reopening plan that calls for students to start the school year remotely before a phase-in of a hybrid model. Teachers, however, will be asked to work from their classrooms, even during the remote phase from Sept. 14 to Oct. 2.
