MARBLEHEAD, MA — Marblehead has unveiled a plan designed to "enhance safety, accessibility and user experience." Town officials released the plan this week that was several months in the in the making, along with Toole Design, with help from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. "The plan presents an exciting vision for the future of how the trail can better serve a growing community of users," the town said in a statement. "This vision for a safe, accessible, and connected Marblehead Rail Trail will allow community members to enjoy the trail for years to come." The town submitted a Complete Streets Program Grant application to implement some of the recommendations in the report. "Responses to the online survey, supported by the public workshop, show strong support among trail users for improvements to street crossings and drainage," the plan said. "There is also some support for providing trail amenities, particularly if they are designed and situated with an eye toward maintaining the rustic character of the trail. "A significant number of respondents expressed support for making the trail wider and more consistent throughout the corridor." The full recommendations in the report can be found here.
