Description

Honoring Kevin Yost—his passion for cycling and his dedication to making our streets safe for everyone. Kevin Yost lost his life due to a distracted driver, on Sunday, August 25th, 2019 at the age of 28 in Sacramento, California. He is survived by his wife Lu Yu, mother and father Terri and David Yost, his twin sister Kristi, brother-in-law Brian McWilliams, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. Kevin had a deep passion for transportation safety and active transportation planning. He received a Master of City and Regional Planning and a Master of Science in Engineering, each with a Transportation Planning Specialization from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2018. As a transportation advocate and consultant at Kittelson & Associates, Kevin lived out his passion by helping communities build safe, effective, and sustainable transportation systems. When he wasn’t in the office, Kevin enjoyed biking around Sacramento, taking a walk in Curtis Park, hiking, and trying new food with his loving wife Lu Yu. This May for Kevin's Birthday and during #MayisBikeMonth, join us for a bike ride to honor his values, ethos, and passion for active transportation. #KevinsBikeRide will take participants on a journey through many of Kevin and Lu’s favorite places to bike to, including murals, shops, and other interesting architectural points of interest throughout Sacramento. The bike ride will start at Curtis Park at 10:00 a.m. and convene at Curtis Park for a community celebration featuring birthday cake, beverages, and a number of fun activities. Civic Thread, formerly WALKSacramento and Sacramento Area Bike Advocates (SABA) will also be onsite offering educational materials, bike lights, bike valet, and pop-up bike repairs for those in need. Participants are encouraged to use the hashtag #KevinsBikeRide and tag @KevinsBikeRide on Instagram throughout the day to highlight route stops and bring awareness to the places Kevin loved to visit. You can prepare in advance by reviewing the “Event Day Route” in the Google Map on the event website. For those who can't join us, check out a few of Kevin’s favorite places on your own time by toggling the “Kevin’s Favorite Places” layer and tagging #KevinsbikeRide in your posts.
