MANSFIELD, MA — Those hoping for a Rob Gronkowski return to a New England football field got their wish on Friday. Only the New England Patriots all-time great tight end was not making a return to Gillette Stadium, he was at Mansfield High where he was thought to be filming a documentary on his comeback to the NFL. Mansfield High School welcomed NFL great Rob Gronkowski to Alumni Field today for the filming of his comeback documentary. Unfortunately we could not convince to stay with NE, but wish him the best in Tampa! pic.twitter.com/oxmowlyp3j— Mike Redding (@MikeRedding1) July 16, 2020 Gronkowski was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in April for a fourth-round draft pick. The trade reunites him with Tom Brady after Brady signed with the Bucs as a free agent this spring. Gronkowski retired in March 2019 after three Super Bowl championships and a Hall of Fame-worthy nine seasons in New England. He has one year at $10 million left on his contract. He had a brief run in World Wrestling Entertainment before making his decision to come out of retirement and to request the trade to Tampa. The Patriots hope to begin moving on from the Brady-Gronkowski era starting on July 28 when they are scheduled to welcome new addition Cam Newton to the start of training camp.
