Dr. Doherty discusses the effect of political stress on clients and coping skills for improved relationships at our May Grand Rounds event. Lorenz Clinic is excited to host Dr. Bill Doherty, Ph.D., for his presentation, Therapy in a Polarized Political Environment, for our May Grand Rounds Continuing Education Event. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, and after a great turnout for our April Grand Rounds, we are excited to offer this event to clinicians in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. Dr. Doherty’s workshop will be both clinical and practical, offering time for questions and discussion, and as well as video demonstration. Learning Objectives Identify the scope and sources of today’s high levels of political polarization.Discuss how political stress can affect clients in their relationships. Describe tools for helping clients cope with political differences in ways that buffer their relationships and potentially improve them.About the Presenter Dr. Bill Doherty, Ph.D., is a family therapist and professor in the Department of Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota where he directs The Citizen Professional Center. Following the 2016 U.S. presidential election, he co-founded Braver Angels, a citizen initiative bringing conservatives and liberals together to counteract political polarization and restore the fraying social fabric in American society. Braver Angels now has volunteers working in all 50 states. At the same time, he co-created the Police and Black Men Project, for which he facilitates an ongoing group of police officer and community members who have forged relationships of trust with the goal of safe communities for all. He has a strong interest in social change based on assets rather than deficits for everyone involved. Dr. Doherty has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Family Therapy Academy, among other accolades in his career. Location This is an in-person event held at Lorenz Clinic's Rosemount location to view the live webinar. Come meet our team and enjoy networking over light refreshments. Check-in starts at 9:30am and the presentation begins at 10:00am. Masking is currently optional at the clinic. Continuing Education Credit This event has been approved by the Minnesota Boards of Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, Psychology, and Behavioral Health & Therapy for 2 hours.
