WESTON, MA — Two Massachusetts men died on Tuesday after encountering dangerous weather while canoeing in rural northern Vermont. According to Vermont State Police, Aidan Connolly, 27, of Roslindale, and Nicholas Samuels, 29, of Weston, set out on Seymour Lake just before noon Tuesday in a single canoe. Police said the men encountered rain, strong winds and slushy water before capsizing and drowning. A witness told police he saw the boat capsize, and watched Connolly and Samuels attempt to swim back to shore. "The men began trying to swim back to shore, but the witness reported seeing them go under the water and not resurface," police said. Police divers recovered the bodies about 100 feet from the shore on Tuesday, the department said. Seymour Lake is located near the town of Morgan a few miles south of the Canadian border.
