MASSAPEQUA, NY — For the 14th consecutive year, the Massapequa School District has been nationally recognized for its music program. It was one of 738 districts across the country to be named to the 2022 Best Communities for Music Education list, a designation from the National Association for Music Merchants Foundation. General music classes in Massapequa begin in kindergarten, and students have the chance to join the band, chorus and orchestra in fourth grade. They can continue singing and playing throughout their secondary careers, with chances to join numerous ensembles. The NAMM Foundation recognized the efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders in supporting music education as part of a well-rounded education for all children. This year's awards program particularly celebrated schools and districts for adapting, innovating and persevering in the face of change during the COVID-19 pandemic. "During the two years of COVID, our teachers innovated and engaged in every possible way to keep our students growing as musicians," said Vincent Green, Massapequa's director of fine and performing arts. "Having our teachers and the supportive community recognized for their continuing efforts is as welcome as the return to live, in-person performances."
