The Gulf Breeze Optimist Family Fishing Rodeo offers over $7000 in prizes for 25 species in two categories. Kids 14 and Under fish for free. The Gulf Breeze Optimist Family Fishing Rodeo, in its 47th year, offers competitive fishing opportunities for individuals and families with the goal of encouraging kids to fish while raising money for youth programs in the community. Anglers fish for more than 25 species in open and junior divisions, competing for gift certificates totaling approximately $5500 plus a tournament cash drawing of $1000 in the Open Division and a $500 prize in the Junior Division. More than 120 prizes for all anglers with each angler limited to one prize with the exception of prizes awarded by drawings. The Open Division (no age restriction) ticket price of $25 and the free Junior Division (14 and under) tickets both include two-days of tournament entry and a free fish fry at weigh-ins. All participants, including Junior Division, must register to validate their ticket prior to 8 a.m. Saturday, and must weigh-in their fish at Shoreline Park from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., the days of the tournament. Tournament begins at 5 a.m. Saturday and ends 5 p.m. Sunday. Only legal fish may be weighed. Junior Division anglers compete for smaller gift certificates than the Open Division.
