Description
MCSP Promotes Mental Health Awareness Month The Medfield Coalition for Suicide Prevention (MCSP), is excited to promote a host of initiatives throughout the month of May, during Mental Health Awareness Month and invites the Medfield community to join. The coalition aims to reduce the stigma of talking about mental health and encourage community members to access the myriad of resources available to support mental health and wellness. By hosting events and encouraging community participation throughout the month, MCSP hopes to raise awareness and remind residents that they are not alone. One of the events that MCSP is hosting in May is QPR: Question, Persuade, Refer. This free training is open to the community and aims to teach the skills that can help us recognize signs of someone who may be struggling with a mental health issue, and to help that person access mental health help. QPR will be offered on May 4th at 7pm at St. Edwards Parish in Medfield. Training is recommended for 18+. Registration is NOT required. MCSP is also hosting a community book read of "The 5 Love Languages" by Gary Chapman. We invite community members to read this book to learn how to better communicate with your loved ones and then to join us on May 25th at 7:00 pm at Medfield Outreach for a rich and supportive discussion. We hope this can help readers learn simple and effective ways to strengthen our connections, so we can experience greater joy and harmony in all of our relationships. Copies of "The 5 Love Languages" are available at the Medfield Public Library. Please email [email protected] to register for the book read. MCSP is bringing back the successful Medfield Moves for Mental Health, which debuted last year, in order to promote movement and wellness in recognition of the role that exercise and movement play in the promotion of mood and enhancement of well-being. The coalition invites the Medfield community to get up, get moving, and share their activity during the month-long event. The initiative is called "#Medfield Moves for Mental Health'' and aims to promote any sort of movement or exercise, including walking, running, spinning, playing with kids, etc. Registrants can share photos of themselves "moving for mental health" on social media with the hashtag #MedfieldMovesforMentalHealth. The coalition will hold weekly drawings for anyone who participates and shares a photo. Each photo submitted will be entered into a drawing to win items donated from local businesses. In addition, the first 30 registrants will receive a free "Medfield Moves for Mental Health" t-shirt, sponsored by Representative Denise Garlick. Please use this link to register: https://forms.gle/k6RLPDPh2TCsxaWh9. During the month of May, MCSP will also be sharing facts and resources about mental health and support services on social media. We encourage community members to share these facts to raise awareness and reduce stigma. For each post re-shared or re-tweeted, residents will be entered into the weekly drawing and be eligible to win weekly prizes. The Medfield Coalition for Suicide Prevention, made possible by the Medfield Foundation, was created in September 2017 and is composed of community members and professionals who care about mental health. Recognizing that suicide has touched our town, the coalition came together to form an initiative that raises awareness and has the potential to save lives. Our mission is to promote the mental health and emotional well-being of all community members, raise awareness, reduce stigma and educate our community to help end suicide. Our vision is to build a community where suicide, self-harm and stigma have been replaced by hope, self-care and acceptance. The Medfield Moves for Mental Health initiative was implemented to support the coalition's mission to promote mental health and raise awareness regarding the resources available to the Medfield community. The coalition is open to all community members! Learn more on our website at https://www.medfieldcsp.org/ or email us at [email protected] for the monthly meeting schedule.
