EAST HAMPTON, NY — A COVID-19 outbreak has sparked the temporary closure of the East Hampton Town Senior Center, officials said Wednesday. The facility is expected to reopen on May 2 following a deep cleaning, town officials said. Following several cases of COVID-19 among senior center program attendees and staff, the town shuttered the facility, located on Springs-Fireplace Road in East Hampton. Regular participants in center programs will be notified, and take-out meal service offered to those in need. Throughout the pandemic, the Town of East Hampton has followed New York State Health Department and Centers for Disease Control guidelines in setting policies designed to limit spread of the virus, with particular concern over the risk to members of the community's more vulnerable, older, or immune-compromised populations, town officials said. "The temporary suspension of in-person Senior Center services was determined to be prudent, out of an abundance of caution to protect the senior citizens who use the center," town officials said.
