BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — One person died in a crash on Interstate 83 south on Wednesday morning, according to police. It closed the interstate for more than four hours. Around 4:50 a.m., troopers said they were called to I-83 south of Shawan Road, where a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. A man was hit by a tractor-trailer when he ran out into the road, officials said. Baltimore County Fire Department personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene, according to police, who said he has not been identified. The driver of the tractor-trailer stayed at the scene, and the Maryland State Police Crash Team is investigating the collision, officials said. I-83 was closed due to the fatal crash, and traffic was being detoured onto Shawan Road. Around 8 a.m., the Baltimore County Police Department said the crash on I-83 had resulted in backups elsewhere in the county. "With the crash on I-83, parts of York Road are congested," police reported. "Give yourself some extra time and pack some patience." By 9:30 a.m., the Maryland State Highway Administration said all lanes on I-83 had reopened. See the latest lane closure information from state transportation officials. CHART.
