MANASSAS, VA — Police said they arrested a pastor after he inappropriately touched a woman at their Manassas church last month. The pastor, 76-year-old John Roger Peyton of Woodbridge, faces charges of sexual assault and assault and battery, the police department said. The assaults occurred during two counseling sessions at the Reconciliation Community Church on Joplin Road between March 8 and March 10, according to the police report. Authorities said Peyton had invited the 20-year-old victim into his office for one-on-one counseling sessions. Officers responded to the church on Thursday for their investigation. Police determined that Peyton inappropriately touched the victim during the counseling sessions. The victim eventually reported the incidents to a family member, who then contacted the police department. Peyton is charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of assault and battery. His court date is pending and his bond is listed as unavailable. Anyone with more information that could help the investigation can contact the police department's tipline at 703-792-7000.
