MIDDLETOWN, CT — Several pets died in a devastating fire that destroyed a home and left 10 people displaced Monday night in Middletown, according to officials. Crews responded to the two-alarm fire in the 100 block of Old Road Drive in the Westfield section of Middletown around 8 p.m. on Monday. Two families – four adults and six children — were displaced after the fire and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. "The large home was located over 2,000' off the roadway in a section of town where there were no fire hydrants," officials wrote on the Westfield Fire Department's Facebook page. All of the residents were able to escape the fire safely. "Unfortunately, numerous animals perished and the house is a total loss," officials wrote on the Middletown Animal Control's Facebook page. Officials said several pets haven't been accounted for and are hoped to be missing.
