MERIDEN, CT — A man already facing charges in an incident that injured five officers has also been charged in a shooting last year, according to a police Facebook post. Police said they received a call April 16, 2021, regarding gunshots in the area of Lewis Avenue and Springdale Avenue.
Police did not find a victim but did locate several shell casings. While police were investigating, they received a call from Mid State Medical Center reporting that a gunshot victim had arrived at the emergency room with non-life-threatening injuries.
On April 26, 2021, police attempted to stop a vehicle related to the shooting investigation. During this incident, several officers were injured, police said. Police recovered two illegal guns, and one of those arrested was Luis Camacho, 26, of Meriden.
During the stop, Camacho drove into two cruisers and an unmarked police car, according to police. Five officers were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries. The injuries ranged from a concussion to a broken foot, as well as officers inside the vehicles who suffered bodily sprains and strains.
Camacho was charged earlier this month with first-degree assault, first-degree criminal attempt to commit assault, carrying a pistol without a permit, and weapons in a motor vehicle.
He was held on $250,000 bond.
