Newark Will Celebrate Earth Day With Cleanup, Climate Conversation

NEWARK, NJ — The City of Newark will hold two events in April to celebrate Earth Day. The Cleaner Newark Citywide Cleanup will take place on Friday, April 22, beginning at the Department of Public Works building at 9 a.m., and concluding with a "Grab and Go" lunch, provided by ShopRite Newark at 1 p.m. The "Game of Extremes" tabletop exercise, hosted by the Office of Sustainability, will bring community leaders together to have a conversation around climate resiliency and extreme weather preparedness. This event will be held on Saturday, April 23, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at the Feldman Middleton, Jr., Community Center at Weequahic Park. The center is located at 92 Thomas Carmichael Drive, in Newark. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. To RSVP for the "Game of Extremes," go to https://bit.ly/rsvp-apr23-goe. Registration is required. Individuals or volunteers from businesses, and community organizations are welcome to participate. "Creating a cleaner Newark improves the quality of life for all of our residents," Mayor Ras Baraka said. "It is also critical to raise awareness among our present and future generations of the issues of climate change and environmental issues," Baraka said. "While we want our residents to keep Newark clean every day, I urge all residents to do their part on this special day."
