Don't Panic: Bethel HS Mock Car Crash Will Have Big Police Presence

BETHEL, CT — Bethel High School students will be joined by members of local police and fire departments Wednesday in the staging of a mock car crash. The assembly is an awareness-raising exercise designed to depict the aftermath of a person driving, and crashing, while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Local first responders from the Bethel Police Department, Bethel Fire Department, Stony Hill Fire Department, New Milford Police Department, Danbury Police Department and the Redding Police Department will be on hand simulating an actual accident response. Students have also arranged for a helicopter from aeromedical company Life Star to do a fly-over as part of the presentation, according to a statement from BHS. School Resource Office Jason Broad said the assembly "will not only serve as a learning experience for the students, but as a training experience for our departments." In a video produced by the school and distributed to the community Tuesday, BHS principal Chris Troetti said that some students might be disturbed by what they see during the crash simulation, and so the school will have counselors standing by during and after the assembly.
