TEMECULA, CA — Felony charges have been filed against a woman suspected of abducting a 3-year-old boy from a Temecula property and then allegedly fleeing in a Jaguar stolen from the youngster's father.
According to court records, Jessica Emily Reichert, 52, has been charged with willful child cruelty, child stealing, taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, and evading arrest — all felonies. She is due to appear in court Tuesday.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the alleged abduction occurred just before 11 a.m. Thursday in the 29600 block of Solana Way, east of Interstate 15.
Reichert snatched the child, identified in court documents only by the initials "T.H.," and drove away in a 2004 Jaguar XJ belonging to the child's father, according to investigators.
Alerts were broadcast after the father reported the alleged abduction, culminating in a nearly three-hour search that ended on Sage Road in Aguanga, where patrol deputies spotted the car, according to sheriff's investigators.
Reichert failed to stop for police and instead headed west back into Temecula, eventually pulling over in the 32100 block of Temecula Parkway, where she was taken into custody without incident, investigators said.
The boy was uninjured and returned home.
A possible motive for the alleged incident was not disclosed. According to the sheriff's department, Reichert is not believed to be related to the child.
Reichert has no documented felony or misdemeanor convictions in Riverside County. She is being held at Riverside's Robert Presley Detention Center in lieu of $100,000 bail.
