Press release from the City of Ames: April 18, 2022 Through a partnership between the City of Ames and KHOI Community Radio, the third "Earth Day on the Airwaves" event will be broadcast from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. The event will include live call-ins from the Ames Water Plant Open House, which is planned for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day at 1800 E. 13th St. Listeners should tune into KHOI-FM Community Radio at 89.1 or stream at www.KHOIFM.org to hear about sustainability efforts throughout the community. "Earth Day on the Airwaves" radio special will feature City of Ames staff co-hosting with KHOI Community Radio volunteers. Segments will include City of Ames sustainability projects, plans, and updates on the first community Climate Action Plant. Also, volunteer members of the Climate Action Plan Supplemental Input Committee will share their experiences. Other participants will include Ames Sustainability Coordinator and Iowa State University Director of Sustainability Merry Rankin. "Remembering Earth Day and its focus on the environment helps us examine the choices we make as individuals and as a community. This year it is particularly exciting to discuss progress on our community Climate Action Plan," Rankin said. "Earth Day presents a great opportunity to educate ourselves on reducing our carbon footprint and understanding our own role in creating a healthier planet."
