Man Dies By Suicide After 4-Hour SWAT Standoff In Chesco: Police

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — A lengthy standoff in Chester County ended in tragedy on Tuesday evening after a man who was holding a shotgun to himself pulled the trigger, police said. The encounter lasted for four hours as negotiators tried to talk the man down. The incident began at around 4 p.m. at a home on Brandamore Road in West Brandywine Township. Police found the man on the rear deck of the home when they arrived, already pointing the shotgun at himself and threatening himself harm, according to authorities. Police on the scene were unsuccessful in deterring the man. Trained negotiators with SWAT arrived and spent hours attempting to talk the man out of the situation, but ultimately were unsuccessful, police said. The man ultimately left the home and shot himself dead, according to police. A shelter in place was established for a quarter mile perimeter around the home during the incident. "This was a very sad and unfortunate ending to a circumstance that law enforcement and family worked hard to get assistance to him," West Brandywine Police shared. "The law enforcement community extends thoughts and prayers to all this has affected." No other injuries were reported. Officers from West Brandywine, Honey Brook, and West Caln responded to the scene.
