MANSFIELD, MA — Mansfield Police Chief Ron Sellon released a statement denouncing the actions of the Minneapolis police officers involved in the death of George Floyd as he assured town residents that his department is "commitment to the fair and equal treatment for every person." The statement was issued in the wake of weekend protests, which turned violent in cities across the country — including Boston—after the police killing of Floyd in Minneapolis last week. "Each day I work to provide a framework of training, policy and procedure, and accountability for officers," Sellon said. "We set the bar high on a national level, but we raise it even higher here in Mansfield by thoroughly embracing the six pillars of the principles embodied in the final report of the President's Task Force on 21st Century Policing. "By continuously working with members of the community to design solutions to problems, prevent crimes, and reduce the fear of crimes, we all collectively improve the quality of life for everyone in our town. All of us at Mansfield PD are steadfast in our commitment to the fair and equal treatment for every person and support the civil discourse necessary to achieve that most basic human right," he concluded.
