LOS ANGELES — Organic zucchini products sold at Walmart stores in 18 states are being recalled after health officials said they could be contaminated with salmonella. World Variety Produce, based in Los Angeles, is voluntarily recalling some organic zucchini products that could be contaminated with salmonella. The organism can cause serious — and sometimes deadly — infections in young children, elderly people and those with weak immune systems. Healthy people infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea — which can be bloody— nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said in a recall notice Tuesday. In rare cases, the organism can enter the bloodstream and create more-severe illnesses, such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis. The product, Organic Marketside Zucchini, was distributed at some Walmart stores in Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin. No illnesses have been reported to date, the FDA said. The recall came after routine FDA sampling found a single lot of imported zucchini tested positive for salmonella. Affected products have the following descriptions: Brand: Organic MarketsidePackaging: Clear Overwrap TrayPack/Weight: 2ct / Net Wt. 6oz (170g)UPC Code: 6-81131-22105-4Case Lot Number: 38706503
