EVANSTON, IL — One man is hospitalized and no one is in custody after a shooting during an argument Tuesday night in downtown Evanston, police said. After a 21-year-old Niles man was shot twice — in both the abdomen and the buttocks — in the 1500 block of Sherman Avenue, he walked about one block west to the Evanston Police Department, according to police. Officers met the man in the lobby of the station at 1454 Elmwood Ave. around 11:30 p.m., police said, before he was taken to Evanston Hospital with injuries that police said were not life-threatening. Investigators believe the man had been inside a car with two other people before the shooting. Police said they have identified those people. According to preliminary police investigation, the Niles resident and the two other occupants of the car got into an argument, and one of them shot him as he was getting out of the car, which then fled. No charges have been filed, pending further investigation, according to Cmdr. Ryan Glew. "This was not a random attack," Glew said in a statement. "The offenders are not in custody but the investigation does not indicate there is a continued threat to the general public."
