Elmhurst Council Approves $48K Settlement

ELMHURST, IL – The Elmhurst City Council approved a $48,800 settlement Tuesday, with one member dissenting. The council was poised to approve the agreement with a package of other items known as the consent agenda. But Alderman Michael Honquest asked for a separate vote. When Mayor Scott Levin asked why, Honquest said, "Simply voting no, Mr. Mayor." No other public discussion occurred. The council may have talked about the agreement at its April 4 closed meeting, which was held to discuss pending or probable litigation. Everyone else present voted for the agreement. Aldermen Noel Talluto, Emily Bastedo and Jennifer Veremis were absent. The city has yet to post the council resolution and settlement on its website. Officials have not revealed the recipient of the money or the nature of the claim against the city. Patch on Wednesday emailed the city about whether it planned to release the documents online. Last month, the council unanimously approved an $80,000 settlement with firefighter Eric Burmeister, who filed a claim against the city. Honquest was among three aldermen absent. In that case, the city posted the resolution on the website after the meeting, but not the settlement. Patch obtained that document through a public records request.
