Press release from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools: 4/19/2022 For the last two years Chpryelle Carr Muhizi has been giving her talents, energy and passion into making Rea Farms STEAM Academy a better place. Muhizi, affectionately known as CeCe, is a pedeatrician at Atrium Health, but has also found enough time in her busy schedule, 20 hours a week, to support staff, students and families at the school. Two years ago when Rea Farms opened its doors, she helped establish the school's PTA, which currently has 450 members. CeCe also serves as the school's PTA Advocacy Chair and the PTA President, focusing much of her energy on organizing PTA initiatives and fundraising. Under her leadership, the Rea Farms PTA has raised tens of thousands of dollars to support the school's STEAM Magnet program. Her biggest fundraiser has been the Falcons Fund. Last October she asked for donations from families. Amazingly, she raised $35,000 in just 10 days. She also created the school's popular VIP Car Pool Program in which parents who donate $200 are able to skip the dreaded long car pool line while dropping their kids off. CeCe values the important role that volunteers have in the success of a school. "With CMS we have excellent schools, but the way we are truly going to be able to make sure children succeed is having parent involvement", says Muhizi. "I want to make sure that I do my part as a parent to make sure my children have the best education." Muhizi is also a mom of two students at Rea Farms, a 1st grader and 3rd grader. She understands how vital it is for parents to help teachers create a positive learning experience. "We are so blessed with the resources that we have been able to raise with the PTA and the different academic supplements that we've been able to provide. It's rewarding to see how we're able to support students and teachers as they continue to thrive here." Principal Brooklyn Hough says the Rea Farms school community is lucky to have Muhizi in a leadership role. "She's always thinking about what's best for our community. We are so blessed to have had her support for the past two years." If you ask CeCe what her greatest accomplishment has been in the last two years, she says it's creating a PTA that is diverse. "We were able to create a PTA that really represents all. We wanted to make sure that we were not only diverse in so many ways, but that we were also advocating for all children."
