MALDEN, MA — A rally for healthy and safe working and learning conditions in public schools this fall is planned in Malden. The Malden Education Association organized the event and says that teachers' groups from Cambridge, Danvers, Plymouth, Carver, Lynn, New Bedford, Wakefield and Westford plan to send members.
The rally will take place Thursday, July 30 at 3 p.m. in front of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, 75 Pleasant St., Malden. Parking is available at the Beebe School, 401 Pleasant St., and at the CBD Garage at the corner of Middlesex and Centre Street (Route 60).
"We are holding this rally to make sure the state doesn't pressure school districts to open to in-person teaching before health and safety conditions are met," Deb Gesualdo, president of the Malden Education Association, said in a statement. "Opening too soon could result in educators, students and family members becoming sick and dying. It could also lead to wider community spread of the virus. All decisions about in-person teaching and learning must be guided by science."
