Description

MALDEN, MA — Mayor Gary Christenson signed an executive order establishing a moratorium on evictions in Malden. The order goes into effect Monday, Dec. 21 and applies to evictions due to nonpayment of rent and no-cause evictions. Evictions deemed necessary for public health or safety are allowed under the executive order, and tenants must continue to pay their rent. The order prevents the enforcement of evictions to promote public health during the pandemic. The city and the Malden Redevelopment Authority have also launched a program to provide court-based legal assistance, mediation and rental assistance for households facing eviction. Households facing eviction in the Northeast Housing Court should contact Housing Families, Inc. at [email protected] or 781-322-9119 ext. 8. Households facing eviction in Malden District Court should contact Just-A-Start Corporation at [email protected] or 617-494-0444. Households needing help navigating available resources and who have not been served with an eviction notice should contact Human Services and Community Outreach Director Karen Colón-Hayes at [email protected] or (781) 397-7144.
