Description
Mufasa is turning 6 years old next month! He was born in Anaheim (I assume) to a lady who kept Mufasa's mother and siblings. the lady decided however, to gift Mufasa to a friend of hers. this friend had gone to school to be a veterinarian assistant and so she knew that he could properly take care of the puppy. Mufasa was given to his owner as a pup to begin his training. the owner trained Mufasa to make him a profit in dog fights. he went through a vicious training which involved regular tactics such as starvation and beatings. he had to kill or be killed in a fight and his owner trained him to win by being very abusive. he wanted a killer. he was also to be a guard dog, tasked with protecting his owner at all costs. once he was sufficiently "trained" he was put to fight. he was very good at it but did suffer some injuries. his owner had to stitch together Mufasa's lip after it was nearly ripped off by another dog. he still has a visible scar to this day. Never the less Mufasa was undefeated and made his owner a nice profit. After he began fighting the owner wanted to go visit the lady. He took Mufasa with him everywhere and didn't think twice about bringing his dog with him. the Lady and the owner left Mufasa in the yard with his mother and siblings for a long over due reunion while they went into the house to eat and catch up. 15 to 20 minutes later they returned to the yard to enjoy their food and check on all the dogs and to their horror they saw that Mufasa had killed his entire blood line. The lady wanted to kill Mufasa as she had loved his mother dearly. When asked she says it is difficult for her to even look at Mufasa to this very day. And she also hasn't fully forgiven Mufasa's owner for the incident either. It wasn't too long after this horrible attack that Mufasa would see his last fight. Not that he lost the fight. He simply sat down and decided he was retired much to the relief of his opponent. His opponent sat down right along with Mufasa before the fight even began. Mufasa's owner wasn't as happy however and Mufasa suffered the consequences of his decision. But ultimately the owner accepted his dog's retirement after punishment was delt for the lost revenue. Mufasa didn't turn into a normal dog after that. He'd attack little dogs and other animals believing them to be a treat for him. and he was still starved and abused regularly by his owner. He might have retired as a fighter but he was NOT allowed to quit his job as a guard dog for his owner. Mufasa's owner saw that his dog's trained behaviors were problematic around the general population and saw a need to try and "normalize" Mufasa to a dog life. At the same time the owner was switching careers himself, deciding to go into the health care field. And so he began training Mufasa to be a service dog. Documentation of his training as a service animal is not available and it is safe to assume that this training was not official but done by his owner. However, Mufasa did work with a Vietnam veteran who suffers fainting spells as well as flashbacks. While working with the veteran he did have to acclimate to being around a female Husky mix, although they had to be kept apart for the Husky's safety and slowly allowed around each other. He was never fixed. And he was recently caught up on his vaccinations. His owner recently became homeless and decided to abandon Mufasa into my care. Unfortunately he did not discuss this with me first. I have a 2 month old kitten that i rescued just over a month ago. I am not allowed to have pets in this apartment as part of my lease and snuck the kitten in just days before Mufasa was left in my apartment. The kitten is one thing, he is small and stays in doors. Mufasa is big and needs to go out for walks. Property management has already spotted him on the security cameras and are threatening to raise my rent if I don't get rid of him soon. I will have to pay a "cleaning deposit" that is being added to my next months rent. Since I know of Mufasa's background (especially since I know the story of what happened to his bloodline) I am VERY concerned that I may come home one day and find my little kitten torn to shreds. They seem ok at the moment but my kitten is starting to get very rambunctious and Mufasa seems to be loosing his patience slowly but surely. Especially since my kitten wants to play fight and doesn't fully understand Mufasa. Mufasa seems to be getting more and more possessive of me and is beginning to get jealous of the kitten. I have no experience with dogs, let alone troubled dogs. And his owner says he has left the state and won't be returning for Mufasa. He seems to think that this is Mufasa's home, even though I have made sure he knows that it is not his home. I need to find this dog another home ASAP. But I don't want him to wind up being put down. He didn't choose the life his owner had planned out for him and does show signs that with the right type of owner he can be a happy and loving puppy. He absolutely loves to get head rubs and seems to find comfort in hearing that he is a good boy. I want whoever may be interested in Mufasa (as he is a very handsome dog) to know exactly what they are getting themselves into. I wouldn't recommend he be around children, or other small animals. (I try to keep my kitten and him away from each other especially when I am not home.) I don't want to have to call animal control and I don't even fully know if they are the right avenue to go with if I am unable to find him a home by the end of this month. I am hoping someone will see this post and be the right fit. I am asking for a rehoming fee of $200 (to cover the fee I am being charged by the apartment's property management.) But that price is very flexible as I must have him gone ASAP. If you are interested in being Mufasa's new owner, we can set up a meeting as quickly as possible. Just a quick first encounter to see if you will get along and that you see what you will be getting yourself into. Thank you for taking the time to read this very long post. I really hope I can find someone to give him a home soon.
