The Maui Farm is seeking a full-time FACILITIES & GROUNDS MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST to join our team in a supportive role for both residential and farm programs. Under the supervision of the Programs Director, the Facilities & Grounds Maintenance Specialist provides, coordinates and oversees activities related to facilities, farm, and grounds repair and maintenance. Works closely with the Residential Program Manager on housing related projects and the Farm Program Manager on farm related projects. About The Maui Farm The Maui Farm is a community-based nonprofit providing transitional housing and farm-based, family-centered programs to families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Our programs offer families the opportunity to achieve outcomes related to achieving self-sufficiency including establishing parental resilience, developing healthy life skills, furthering education, obtaining gainful employment, and transitioning to safe, stable housing in the community. Primary Responsibilities Residential Facilities & Grounds Responsibilities •Coordinates repair/maintenance/replacement (R/M/R) activities for the residential facilities and equipment including buildings, storage, grounds and furnishings. •Performs routine repair/maintenance tasks. Implements routine repair/maintenance tasks. Schedules all R/M/R appointments with community vendors as approved by the Programs Director. Serves as liaison with community vendors for on-site and off-site R/M/R. •Organizes and maintains a key control box for all agency keys, includes administrative office, program buildings, farm structures and equipment. •Receives and processes all requests for R/M/R within 3 working days of receipt. •Works with Residential Program Manager to teach residents responsible renter skills and techniques including, but not limited to: minor household repairs, basic yard care, preventive maintenance, when and how to call the landlord, etc. •Maintains grounds around Office and residential homes including coordinating and with the grounds maintenance crew that is regularly scheduled to maintain the grounds. Farm Facilities & Grounds Responsibilities •Coordinates repair/maintenance/replacement (R/M/R) activities for farm facilities and equipment including structures, pasture, grounds, gulch, farm equipment and farm truck. •Performs routine maintenance and repair of all farm equipment, animal environments, storage areas, maintenance equipment, and irrigation systems. •Organizes and is familiar with all tools, equipment and equipment manuals. Is able to provide for staff and residents training in safe use, operation and preventative maintenance. •Submits written requests for approval and purchase of all necessary farm equipment, tools and supplies. •Supports the care and feeding of farm animals as needed and requested by the Farm Programs Manager. •Works closely with the Farm Programs Manager and other staff in maintaining the windbreak area, goat paddock system, compost zone, crop field and gardens as requested. Other Duties •Responsible for coordinating once a week town runs in farm truck to the dump, pick up farm/residential supplies, pick up feed, etc. •Coordinates with other staff as directed in order to carry out and successfully complete assigned projects. •Participates in all staff meetings and trainings as required. •Participates and represents The Maui Farm on local, state, regional and national organizations, networks, coalition task forces, etc. as approved by the Programs Director. Desired Qualifications The ideal candidate is a versatile team player with excellent communication skills and is able to establish positive working relationships with families and children. Must be in good health and have the physical ability to operate tools and farm equipment, and engage in physical labor activities including but not limited to pushing, bending, lifting and carrying; and able to lift a minimum of fifty (50) or more pounds. The responsibilities of this position require excellent organizational skills, time management skills, written and verbal communication skills, computer skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple and varied tasks. Duties require the ability to gather, organize, file and retrieve information in an efficient and timely manner. Requires working under occasional pressure working with individuals and groups; dealing with difficult people and situations at times and establishing and maintaining cooperative and productive work relationships. Requires following the company’s procedures and professional guidelines. May require travel in personal vehicle and/or agency owned vehicle. Requirements A criminal history background check and state child abuse and neglect screening is a condition of employment. Requires pre-employment TB testing, a valid driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance and clean traffic abstract. Work Hours Full-time position working Monday through Friday, generally 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Compensation Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications starting at $40,000.
