Join us on a walking tour of Washington, DC, focused on the history of the 19th amendment and the contributions of Mormon women. Come celebrate Women's History with us! From the 1840s to the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, and beyond, valiant suffragists fought for their right to vote. This walking tour in Washington, D.C. will bring to life the struggles of the suffrage movement to extend voting rights to women in the United States. The tour highlights the unique role played by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) in that struggle, and places their stories in the broader context of the larger suffrage movement. You will learn more about the history of these suffragists as we celebrate over 100 years of the 19th Amendment, passed by Congress in 1919 and fully ratified by the states in 1920. Note that this tour is not affiliated with or endorsed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. FAQs How long is the tour? The tour is approximately 1.5 hours in length. How far will I be walking? The tour route covers a little less than 1 mile, with frequent stops. We will be climbing Capitol Hill. Wear your walking shoes! Are men able to attend? Of course! Suffragists welcomed men and women into their movement, and we will do the same. Does the tour start and end at the same place? The tour starts near the Capitol Reflecting Pool and ends at the Belmont-Paul National Equality Monument on Capitol Hill.  What are my transportation/parking options? Use of Metro is recommended. The closest metro stop to the beginning of the tour is the Capitol South station (Orange/Blue/Silver lines). There is limited street parking available in downtown D.C. What if there is inclement weather? The tour will be held rain or shine. Snow and rain did not deter the suffragists, and it will not deter us! Watch the weather forecast and dress appropriately. Can I bring my kids? Kids are welcome! However, some material covered on the tour (polygamy, mistreatment of suffragists in prison, etc.) may not be suitable for all age groups.
