Description
There is now a specialized body of scientific research that can help courts recognize DV and child abuse and respond effectively. Barry Goldstein and Veronica York will be discussing the research and strategies victims and their lawyers can use to improve the chances of protecting their children. They will discuss research like Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) and The Saunders Study. They will also address issues such as alienation, child abuse, child sexual abuse, context, gender bias, and how to address them in your case. In addition, Barry and Veronica will demonstrate what the testimony of a domestic violence and child abuse expert witness sounds like. TX Lawyers will receive 2.25 MCLE credit upon completion of this training. Barry Goldstein and Veronica York work as experts in domestic violence and child abuse custody cases within the family court system. They seek to promote legislation and educate court professionals on the current scientific research available that supports protective parents and their children. Barry Goldstein is a domestic violence author, speaker, advocate and expert witness. He practiced family law for 30 years and worked 21 years as an instructor in a New York model batterer’s program. He has written six books regarding DV and child abuse in custody cases and has given many presentations on the issues in family courts. He has been a speaker every year at the Battered Mother’s Custody Conference in Albany, NY since its inception. He is currently a member of the Domestic Shelters Advisory Committee and a Consulting Expert for the Center for Judicial Excellence. Veronica York is a certified High-Conflict Divorce Coach and a domestic violence and child abuse custody expert. She has advanced training in family law mediation, writes articles, and performs presentations on the topic of contested custody in domestic violence and child abuse cases. She also does training for family court professionals on the misuse of “parental alienation” and the tactics of post separation abuse during a divorce.
