TX Governor: Delaware A 'Great Location' To Send Migrants

AUSTIN, TX — The same day a seventh bus filled with Latin American asylum seekers arrived in Washington, D.C., from Texas, the Lone Star State's governor said he's identified an alternative location for migrants should they run out of room in the nation's capital. "If we run out of room there, Delaware looks like a great location," Abbott said during an appearance with Fox News' Sean Hannity, referencing President Joe Biden's home state. Less than two weeks ago, Abbott announced that Texas would begin transporting migrants who have been processed and released from federal custody to Washington, D.C. At an April 7 news conference, Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to charter flights and buses for this purpose. The directive was a reaction to the Biden administration's decision to lift Title 42, a Trump administration policy that allows border agents to turn back migrants and asylum seekers at the border to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Under the state directive, migrants must volunteer to be transported and show documentation from the Department of Homeland Security. Local officials also can notify the Division of Emergency Management of federal drop-off locations of migrants in their areas. During his conversation with Hannity, Abbott said he will "continue to find 'new ideas' to do President Biden's job." "We have a president of the United States that is not securing the border, and turning a blind eye to a security issue," Abbott said on Monday.
