Westport Police To Host 'Feed The Need' Food Drive

WESTPORT, CT — The Westport Police Department will be host a "Feed the Need" food drive Saturday at Stop & Shop, located on Post Road E. In a news release, Police Lt. Dave Wolf said all donations will directly support Homes with Hope's food pantry, located at the Gillespie Center in Westport, as well as the Westport Human Services' food pantry. Officers and volunteers will accept non-perishable food items, as well as cash donations, in front of Stop & Shop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. According to Wolf, Westport Human Services collaborates with Homes with Hope and the Westport Woman's Club to offer support for residents dealing with food insecurity. The Gillespie Center provides food services to their resident clients, those at risk of homelessness and those in need in the community. Westport-based Homes with Hope is a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness in Fairfield County. The agency provides emergency shelter for men and women, supportive housing for individuals and families, a community kitchen and food pantry, youth development and mentoring programs as tools to achieve and maintain an independent life, Wolf said. Suggested donated items include: Apple Sauce, BBQ Sauce, Boxed Potatoes, Canned meats - tuna, chicken, spam, or corned beef hash, Canned soups, Canned Vegetables , Canned Fruit, Canned Stew, Cereal (hot/cold), Chili, Coffee, Hamburger Helper, Jelly, Ketchup, Macaroni & Cheese, Maple Syrup, Muffin Mix, Mustard, Pasta, Peanut Butter, Rice, Rice-a-Roni, Taco Dinner Kits, Tea and Tomato Sauce (cans or small jars). Homes with Hope maintains an IRS 501-c3 status, so all contributions are tax deductible, Wolf said.
