Description

OAK CREEK, WI — Sunday was national Haiku Day this year. In honor of the special holiday celebrating the poems, we asked readers in Oak Creek to create a Haiku of their own that draws inspiration from Wisconsin. A haiku is a poem that doesn't rhyme. It has 17 syllables, which are split into three lines of five, seven and five, according to Encyclopedia Britannica. The poetry tradition emerged in Japan in the 17th century. Patch asked local residents to write a haiku of their own about their home state, Wisconsin. "Write a haiku about Wisconsin. Remember: it's 5-7-5." Here's what Oak Creek Patch readers wrote about the Badger State: "Fish fry, supper clubs,Packers, Brewers, Bucks are best,Not like Chicago." -Kathy Grom "Beautiful landscapes, wonderful places to go, a slice of heaven." -Donna Riske Marhal "Beer brats and cheese heads,Fish fry Fridays is where it's at,Wisconsinites say Ope up north." -Chelsea Raven Smith Blake Here's the post where we originally asked this question.
