Greendale Robotics Team Plans Trip To Houston For Championship

GREENDALE, WI — The Greendale High School Robotics Team is advancing to the FIRST Robotics Championship, and the team is raising money to make the trip for the tournament in Houston. Known as GRAFFITI, Greendale High School's team earned a spot at the tournament by winning the Engineering Inspiration Award, which celebrates "outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team's school or organization and community." The award was presented to the team on April 2 at the Seven Rivers Regional tournament, according to a fundraiser started by the team. GRAFFITI will meet in Houston on April 20-23 alongside teams from around the world, an opportunity that will spark interactions between Greendale students and students from around the globe, according to the fundraiser. The trip to Houston comes with a price tag. NASA has covered the team's $5000 registration fee, on account of them winning the Engineering Inspiration Award, the fundraiser says. Other expenses, such as airfare, hotels, transporting the teams' robot, tools and more, will be expensive, the fundraiser says. "This team of dedicated and talented students needs help with travel costs associated with the trip," the Greendale School District posted to Facebook. The fundraiser posted on classmunity.com has set a $20,000 goal, with $11,560 being raised so far to help the team with their visit to Houston.
