PEABODY, MA — The Essex County District Attorney's Office and North Shore police departments will once again host a free Summer Day Program — formerly known as D.A.R.E. — this summer at Peabody's Higgins Middle School.
The camps, which were canceled the past two years because of the COVID-19 health crisis, run for five days July 25-29 or Aug. 1-5 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Children entering fifth grade in September are eligible.
The camps are run with the help of police from Beverly, Danvers, Ipswich, Lynn, Lynnfield, Marblehead, Peabody, Gloucester, Salem, Salem State University, Saugus and Swampscott.
The camps are designed to allow youth, police and peer leaders to spend a week together attending educational workforce and participating in team-building activities.
Workshops include lessons in violence prevention, environmental awareness, decision-making and gang resistance.
The application deadline is April 29.
Families should contact their respective police departments for more information or an application.
